Hi Bryan,

How often and for how long should I water my 25 year old plum tree?  Also, how often should I have it prunned?  Thanks for your help!

Maurice

Well that depends a lot on the size of the the tree, what way you are watering it. So give me some more details first .... Usually on older plums I tend to summer prune only to control size. If you are looking to rework the canopy / revigerate it then I would wait to dormit prune/ winter. If your not sure what you would need I would be happy to take a look at it for you.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

So it's about 12 feet tall, and we are watering it with a drip system - three emitters, about 4 Gal/Min, for 60 minutes, twice a week.

Its time to start thinking about summer prunning for your stone  fruit trees. Look for cooler days in your area forecast. This will help  provent sun burn to newly cut open wood. You can also seal the cuts you make with a grafting sealer.  If you didnt  know summer prunning on fruit trees  is how you control vigor in your trees.  This basically means summer prunning helps keep your trees small, and or keeps them the size they are,  where as winter pruning makes your trees grow larger. Do not summer prune Peaches, Nectarines, Almonds, or any other that only bare fruit on new wood. Do summer prune Plums, Pluots, Apricots, and other stone fruits that are spur baring.  If there are any questions just ask. Bryan
